2022 WCQ: FIFA medical officer dies in stampede

  By Kwame Michael The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the death of Dr. Joseph Kabungo, a Zambian medical officer who died few hours after a stampede broke out in the world cup qualifier playoff between west African rivals Nigeria vs Ghana, at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja Nigeria. Dr Kabungo was the CAF Doping officer for the crucial game which turned sour after the super Eagles lost out on qualification hopes following a 1-1 draw with the Black Stars of Ghana. Dr. Kabungo before the game In a report published by renowned British-Nigerian journalist, Osasu Obiayuwana to the media yesterday, Dr. Kabungo was confirmed dead upon arrival at the hospital after sustaining serious internal injuries from the stampede which broke out among the Nigerian spectators after the match. FIFA W/Cup qualifier update: Partey strike sends Ghana to Qatar

By   Michael Danquah Ghana secured a fourth world cup berth and became the first African nation to qualify for the FIFA world cup in Qatar later this year after playing out a 1-1 draw against their the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, Nigeria . Black Stars in Joyful mood A superb strike by Thomas Teye Partey in the 10th minute was all the west African giants needed to sail through in a tough and pulsating encounter . Nigeria consolation equaliser came 11 minutes later via a penalty scored by Moses Troost-Ekong. The Black Stars booked their slot in Qatar on away goal rule after a goaless draw in Kumasi. Pretty exciting moments as well as sad ones, surprises and much more.  Jetting off from Africa, fives games were held across the continent with one win for the Egyptians who narrowly beat African champions Senegal by a lone goal in Cairo, thanks to a Cissé own goal in the first half. Super Eagles arrive in Ghana ahead of crunchy tie

By Kwame Michael   The super Eagles of Nigeria have arrived in Ghana ahead of the 1st leg tie of the two legged world cup qualifier playoff against the Black stars. The Eagles in a group photo at Kumasi The team landed at the Kumasi International airport this morning, with a full contingent in high spirits. They are expected to train tonight at the 40,528 capacity Baba Yara sports stadium which will host the crucial tie which kicks off at 19:30gmt (WAT). Ghana despite their poor campaign at the recently held AFCON in Cameroon, have an upper hand historically, having won 21 of 49 previous meetings with 18 ending in a draw. In a related report, Ghanaian midfield star and Sheriff Tiraspol playmaker, Edmund Addo have been reportedly flown to Maldova for treatment after picking up a late injury in yesterday's training with the Stars at Kumasi, with no replacement in sight for him. Black Stars suffer injury blow ahead of W/cup qualifier

The Black stars have begun training at the Baba Yara sports stadium in Kumasi. Seven players have reported to camp so far whilst the likes of Jordan Ayew and Antoine Semenyo are sidelined with injuries. Semenyo picked up a knee injury during a championship game for Bristol City last week while Jordan Ayew is rumored to have contracted COVID-19 and may not be available for the encounter. Antoine Semenyo The Black Stars head coach,  Otto Addo alongside his two technical assistants Mas-ud-didi Dramani and George Boateng  (Aston Villa U23 coach) are currently in the city training with the arrived players. A final list is expected to be announced by the GFA (Ghana Football Association) within 72 hours.
