2022 WCQ: FIFA medical officer dies in stampede
By Kwame Michael The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the death of Dr. Joseph Kabungo, a Zambian medical officer who died few hours after a stampede broke out in the world cup qualifier playoff between west African rivals Nigeria vs Ghana, at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja Nigeria. Dr Kabungo was the CAF Doping officer for the crucial game which turned sour after the super Eagles lost out on qualification hopes following a 1-1 draw with the Black Stars of Ghana. Dr. Kabungo before the game In a report published by renowned British-Nigerian journalist, Osasu Obiayuwana to the media yesterday, Dr. Kabungo was confirmed dead upon arrival at the hospital after sustaining serious internal injuries from the stampede which broke out among the Nigerian spectators after the match.
