The West Africans picked up their third title since 2015 and became the first host nation to win the competition after Egypt in 2006. In a much anticipated final that saw the 60,000 capacity Alassane Ouattara stadium filled to the brim, both West African nations exhibited high-level football with the Ivoriens dominating the encounter on possession. The Super Eagles got into the lead through a Moses Truust-Ekong header in the 38th minute which sent thrills throughout the stadium. Nigeria looked hungry for glory but managed to end the first half on a lone goal after creating a few good chances. By Michael Osei  Super Eagles Nigeria booked a place in the semi-finals of the 2023 AFCON for the first time since 2013 after beating South Africa on penalties at the Stade Bouake. After a slow start, the Eagles got into the lead via a Moses Truust-Ekong penalty awarded after Victor Osimehn was fouled in the box. The game metamorphosed into a fiesty encounter with both sides creating begging chances that ended in futility. Truust-Ekong celebrate opener  Victor Osimehn grabbed a second goal for the Nigerians after cooly tapping in from a Frank Onyeka cross which was disallowed after the referee's consultation with VAR. South Africa was awarded a penalty after the VAR showed Percy Tau was fouled in the box.  Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena stepped up to level matters before Mudau missed a golden opportunity to win it for the South Africans in extra time. Wonders they say shall never end as Bafana Bafana staged a great coup d'etat to eliminate the no 1 ranked team in the continent "The Atlas Lions"  for the first time in the competition. Maybe the spirit of Nelson Mandela played a role in the victory but hey, who knows! Weldone Boys!! ! The Moroccans dominated the first half with Real Betis 🇪🇸forward Abde Ezzalzouli and Amine Adli of Bayer Leverkusen 🇩🇪both terrorising the South Africa defence. The onslaught was unstoppable until the Referee disallowed a cool goal scored by the pacy winger Ezzalzouli. The beauty of the AFCON cannot be matched when a resurgent Ivorien side that lost 4-0 to Equatorial Guinea in the group phase of the competition stepped up to redeem their image in a thrilling 4-5 penalty win over defending champions Senegal. Hamad Diallo got on the score sheet blasting home a thunderous shot four minutes into the encounter to give the Teranga Lions the lead. The game progresssd into a high tempo duel with both teams creating and missing beautiful chances. Let's delve into the details of the encounter! A resurgent and resilient DR Congo side defied all odds to knock seven-time AFCON winners Egypt out of the tournament held in Ivory coast on a thrilling 8-7 penalties after playing out a 1-1 draw in Full-time.  Both teams were evenly matched right from the onset till the end but the Francophone nation stamped their presence in the encounter with a 37th minute goal scored by Meschak Elia who capitalized on a deflected cross from Yoanes Wissa to nod in the opener.
