Chelsea vs Brighton: Pre-match perspectives and updates

The English Premier League return this weekend and lots of action-packed events are promised for all soccer loving people around the globe!!

Our top talk of the week is a sure easy guess one for an ardent fan of the sport.

Well....coming back from a 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid at the midweek, Chelsea welcomes Brighton &Hove Albion at home under interim manager Frank Lampard. 

The Blues are yet to beat the American Express sponsored team in three years, a curse per say that must be broken. So, a win over the opposition will enhance Chelsea's chances of levelling up before the end of the season.  

Roberto de Zerbi's side has been one the best performing teams so far this season and they'll need to be resilient and resolved to earn make difference considering their fine impressive form.

Kepa Arrizabalaga remains the no 1 goalkeeper despite a low par performance in Madrid, but Frank Lampard believes in his capabilities and he is enlisted to start.

Edouard Mendy's return to fitness was encouraging until a little unprecedented injury propped up recently which is under medical care.

Meanwhile, Todd Boehly has interviewed unpopular Sporting Lisbon Portugese manager Ruben Amorim for the long-term replacement of Graham Potter. 







It is understood that the Chelsea owner has also contacted other candidates in his list: 

Luis Enrique Martinez, Julian Nagelsmann, and Marco Silva.

Despite being placed fourth on the Portugese Liga, Sporting Lisbon's Ruben Amorim seems to be a preferred choice for Boehly considering the ex Portugal international eliminating PL leaders Arsneal from the Europa league; winning on penalties after coming back to draw 1-1 at the Emirates, and holding on to a 2-2 draw in Lisbon.

More updates on the search for a new manager for Chelsea to follow later.

Frank Lampard on the flip side has the opportunity to do well, and probably get the permanent nod from the Club during his interim reign. And he isn't joking about it either.

2023 AFCON: Triumphant Elephants win third AFCON Title on home soil

By Michael Osei  2023 AFCON WINNERS  The Elephants of Cote D'Ivoire have won the 2023 AFCON after beating Nigeria in regulation time. The West Africans picked up their third title since 2015 and became the first host nation to win the competition after Egypt in 2006. In a much anticipated final that saw the 60,000 capacity Alassane Ouattara stadium filled to the brim, both West African nations exhibited high-level football with the Ivoriens dominating the encounter on possession. The Super Eagles got into the lead through a Moses Truust-Ekong header in the 38th minute which sent thrills throughout the stadium. Nigeria looked hungry for glory but managed to end the first half on a lone goal after creating a few good chances. Comeback Kings: Ivory coast stun Senegal to book AFCON quarter -finals berth

By Michael Osei  Jubilant Elephants  Senegal got eliminated from the ongoing 2023 AFCON on penalties by a resilient Ivory Coast side after playing out an exciting 1-1 draw in full-time. The beauty of the AFCON cannot be matched when a resurgent Ivorien side that lost 4-0 to Equatorial Guinea in the group phase of the competition stepped up to redeem their image in a thrilling 4-5 penalty win over defending champions Senegal. Hamad Diallo got on the score sheet blasting home a thunderous shot four minutes into the encounter to give the Teranga Lions the lead. The game progresssd into a high tempo duel with both teams creating and missing beautiful chances.
