Morocco to host 2023 FIFA Club World Cup

FIFA Club World Cup trophy

Morocco will host the 2023 edition of the FIFA Club World Cup as announced by the world's football ruling body.

This announcement was made by the President Gianni Infantino at a press conference in Doha, where he indicated that an expanded version of the 32-team tournament will commence in 2025.

🗣️"We had agreed a few years ago to have a new 24-team men's Club World Cup. It should have taken place in 2021 but was postponed because of Covid," the FIFA president said.

"The new competition will take place in 2025 and will feature 32 teams, making it really like a World Cup," he added, without offering further details.

The competition kicks off from February 1-11 2023, and will feature top clubs from the six continental zones and one from the host to make it seven.

Real Madrid (Spain, Europe), Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia), Seattle Sounders (USA), Auckland City (New Zealand) and Flamengo (Brazil, South America) are all participants in next year's edition.

Chelsea FC of England were the winners of the last edition in UAE where Thomas Tuchel was in charge.

Morocco becomes the first African nation to host the competition for the third time after 2010 and 2014.
