JOYFUL REDS WIN EFL CUP

Posted by Kwame Michael

Liverpool beat Chelsea 11-10 on penalties to clinch their ninth domestic trophy at the Wembley stadium in a pulsating encounter with lots of dramatic moments.

Both clubs were outstanding throughout the game. Joel Matip saw his first half goal disallowed for an offside via VAR consultation. On the flip side, substitute Romelu Lukaku and Kai Havertz's second half extra time goals were also disallowed and flagged for offside.

The game ended in a stalemate with both teams superbly converting their penalties until Kepa Arrizabalaga fired his kick over the bar to hand Liverpool the win.

This marks Jurgen Klopp's 10th trophy as a manager, 21 years after starting his coaching career at Mainz FC.
