NFF APPOINTS NEW SUPER EAGLES COACH

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has officially announced the appointment of Mr. Jose Peseiro as the Head coach of the Senior Men's national football team, the "Super Eagles".

The 62-yr old Portuguese gaffer was appointed to replace the vacant position, formerly occupied by Augustine Eguavoen, who resigned following the Super Eagles failure to qualify for the Qatar 2022 world cup.

Prior to the world cup qualifiers playoffs against the Black Stars of Ghana, Mr. Peseiro was reportedly contacted by the NFF to become the national football team Head coach, but the body later decided to stick with Augustine Eguavoen.

He is expected to lead the Super Eagles for the first time in the upcoming  United States of America tour, where the three–time African champions will slug it out with Mexico and Ecuador ‘A’ Teams in prestige friendlies.

In a statement released by the NFF in a press conference,

“The Eagles will lock horns with the El Tri at the AT & T Stadium in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, 28th May before flying to New Jersey to tackle Ecuador at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison on Thursday, 2nd June,” the statement read in part. 

About the New Coach

José Vitor dos Santos Peseiro is a Portuguese who played as a striker in his days and has wide and varied experience coaching top Clubs and National Teams across four different continents, namely Europe, Asia, Africa and South America.

An educationist with a degree in physical education/sports sciences, Peseiro has top-level coaching qualifications/training, and coaching experience with Sporting Lisbon, FC Porto, Panathinaikos, Rapid Bucharest, Sporting Braga, Victoria Gumaraes, Al-Hilal, Al-Wahda, Al-Ahly Cairo, Sharjah FC and Real Madrid (assistant coach during the Galacticos era), and also served as Head Coach of the Saudi Arabian and Venezuelan National Teams. 

His appointment is with immediate effect and subject to signing of agreed terms between himself and the NFF.
